Tales from the PERT
One of several initiatives towards "end-to-end" performance improvement, the PERT (Performance Enhancement and Response Team) strives to provide a human infrastructure that can assist users - of research networks in particular - to improve performance of their networked applications. PERT work involves understanding user expectations, understanding interactions in complex systems, finding bottlenecks, and managing communication between users and administrators over many different domains. We will present experiences from three years of production-level PERT work in GN2 and SWITCH, and give an outlook on potential future development of the PERT idea.
