Nominations for GÉANT Community Award 2017

GÉANT Association has opened for nominations for the 2017 GÉANT Community Awards.   

The award recognizes individuals who have made a special contribution to research and education networking.  The deadline for nominations is 2 March 2017.  The 2017 award will be presented during the opening plenary of TNC2017 in Linz, Austria, on 30 May 2017.

TNC17 Early Bird Registration Open

29 May may seem like a long time into the future, but the Early Bird registration for TNC2017 - to be held on 29 May - 2 June in Linz, Austria, is already open.

The theme of the 2017 conference will be The Art of Creative Networking​”. As always, the conference will bring together the European R&E Networking community and their friends and partners from around the global.

Scouting for talent at Armada

NORDUnet is always interested in talking to upcoming talent in software and engineering. That is why you can meet us at the Armada event at Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH) in Stockholm again this year.  THS Armada is the annual career fair organised by the Student Union at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and this year it takes place on 22-23 November.

NORDUnet is conducting tender for Learning Management Systems

On behalf of Swedish SUNET and Danish DeiC, NORDUnet has invited Learning Management System vendors to bid for framework contracts for a LMS platform for the two countries, either a cloud based SaaS or an on premise installation with multi-tenant capability.

As the Danish and Swedish key requirements are nearly identical, NORDUnet is able to conduct a shared framework tender. Using the competitive dialogue procedure as specified by the EU, the final bidders will be selected in three stages: Prequalification, Dialogue and Final Bid.

Cinia and NORDUnet aim to position the Nordics as part of the new digital superhighway

Cinia and NORDUnet have signed a MOU regarding a network sharing arrangement, which aims to benefit the Nordic business and science society. The co-operation will provide better services and create new opportunities for scientific organisations, government bodies, and public and private enterprises.

As a first result of this agreement NORDUnet will gain access to 100 Gbps of capacity on the C-Lion cable between Finland and Germany, on the stretch between Helsinki and Hamburg.

NORDUnet is proud to announce the designation of ten knowledge exchange fellows for the upcoming NORDUnet 2016 conference. They will travel to Helsinki from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Ethiopia, Ghana, Khyrgyz Republic, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines and Zambia.

Danish NREN DeIC Selects New DWDM Platform

Deic, the Danish NREN, has selcted Ericsson and ECI Telecom as providers for a new, national optical network footprint for research and education. The new DWDM optical network platform, based on the ECI Apollo 9600 series, allow both 100Gbps coherent and 10Gbps optical transmission, with a total of 88 channels on a single fibre.

Towards tailor-made virtual networks

Reducing the time it takes to set up an experimental network from months to minutes, and allowing Wide Area Network testing, the NORDUnet Global Virtualization Service, GVS, is a great forward stride in network virtualisation. Researchers are now invited to use the new testbed-as-a-service to test new network technologies, create isolated “private” networks and develop advanced distributed applications.
