CHINESE-NORDIC NETWORKING WORKSHOP IN TRONDHEIM
On 19-21 April 2006 NORDUnet and UNINETT hosted a Chinese-Nordic Workshop in Trondheim, Norway. The workshop brought together research network owners, network researchers, and GRID people from China and the Nordic countries, for two intense days of collaboration and investigation. We were honored to have strong participation and presentations from the Chinese NRENs CSTnet and CERNET. The central theme of the workshop was to present the state of the art if research and educational networking, network research, and grid efforts in China and the Nordic countries, to heighten the mutual understanding of capabilities and challenges in the participating countries, and to explore potential for collaboration within the areas discussed.
The presentations resulted in a lively discussion, and a good number of shared challenges and priorities where noted. It was agreed that a strong potential for collaboration exists between China and the Nordic countries. It was agreed to arrange a follow-up workshop in China in the fall of 2006, and to explore further the potential for collaboration on a number of projects.
