NORDUnet and the member networks are actively supporting IPv6 development. NORDUnet and the member networks have participated in IPv6 related projects and supported IPv6 development and standadization efforts.

One result of these activities is that full support for IPv6 has been implemented in the NORDUnet core network as well as in most of the member networks. The NORDUnet core network is dual-stack, supporting both IPv4 and IPv6 natively.

IPv6 protocol requires new addresses for network interfaces. Nordic national research and education networks have registered their own IPv6 address blocks followingly:
FUNET has official IPv6 addresses, block name is 2001:0708::/32
UNINETT has official IPv6 addresses, block name is 2001:0700::/32
SUNET/NORDUnet has official IPv6 addresses, block name is 2001:06B0::/32
Forskningsnettet has official IPv6 addresses, block name is 2001:0878::/32
