NORDUnet restructures NORDUnet Development to extent Global reach.

In a world that are turning more and more global by the minute and with the rise of new economic superpowers it is crucial for the Nordic communities to expand the international cooperation with research partners globally to be able to maintain the Nordic position as a area of innovation and innovative thinking. To facilitate this NORDUnet restructures it international development efforts into a new structure named

International Research Initiatives

Which will be divided into

Global Strategy & Political Representaion: René Buch - CEO NORDUnet.
Nordic & European Initiatives: Lars Fischer - CTO NORDUnet which will focus on:
- Strengthening Nordic Community creation and coordination.
- Strengthening European Community & Research Initiatives including GEANT and related Project Development.
Americans & Asia Pacific Initiatives: Jerry Sobieski - Director International Research Initiatives which will focus on:
- Being the main driving force in expanding the International Research Collaboration between the Nordic Countries and global key Research Initiatives and evangelizing the achievements of the Nordic NREN Community and the benefit of working with NORDIC Scientists.
- Working with global partners facilitating potential projects, contacts and research initiatives to the Nordic NREN community within:shops and cooperation within:
  - eInfrastucture
  - Global Network integration and Network Provisioning Research
  - eScience
  - Astronomy
  - High Energy Physics
  - Environmental Research

NORDUnet is delighted to welcome Jerry Sobieski into this new role which he will fill from May 1st 2008
