Kent Engström wins GÉANT 2015 Community Award

NORDUnet congratulates Kent Engström (SUNET and Linköping University) with being awarded the 2015 GÉANT Community Award. Kent was honoured for his contributions to the Trusted Certificate Service (TCS – formerly known as TERENA Certificate Service), which helps to increase security in online transactions by facilitating the deployment of digital certificates. The award was presented during the closing plenary of the 2015 TNC conference.

Roland Hedberg awarded Vietsch Foundation medal of honour

NORDUnet congratulates Roland Hedberg, University of Umeå, with being awarded a Vietsch Foundation medal of honour for his activities in the specification and development of essential components of current Authentication and Authorisation Infrastructures (AAI), a cornerstone of secure access to websites, applications and data.

The medal was presented to Roland at the closing plenary of the TNC15 conference in Porto.

Tele2 Sweden supplies dark fibre for new Sunet network

NORDUnet congratulate Sunet on the deal with Tele2 Sweden for the supply of dark fiber. Below you can read more about the details from the joint news release from Sunet and Tele2 Sweden.

The public procurement for the new Sunet network is done. The deal means Tele2 will build the dark fiber infrastructure for data communications to all Swedish universities, colleges and other Sunet affiliated organizations. The full Sunet network is to be upgraded, and a contract that runs until 2031 is now signed. The deal is worth around 30 million Euros.

SUNET launches national eduroam mobility

600,000 students and researchers in Sweden go mobile with eduroam and The Cloud.

The Swedish education and research network SUNET and The Cloud have entered a partnership that gives researchers, students and staff at Sweden´s universities and university colleges access to wireless Internet connection off-campus vith eduroam authentication on The Cloud´s 4,500 or so access points in Sweden.
